What Is Pediatric Endocrinology
By the most basic definition, a Pediatric Endocrinologist is a “Hormone Doctor for Children.” The first term, “Pediatric,” refers to infants, children, and adolescents. Endocrinology is the science of endocrine glands, which secrete hormones.
The endocrine glands include the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland, the thyroid, the parathyroid, the pancreas, the adrenal glands, the testicles, and the ovaries. Endocrine disorders often manifest during growth and puberty, yet many other non-endocrine disorders manifest as disorders of growth and puberty.
